About the Artist:    ALFCO NY  Amazing replica ship figureheads made by the Artistic Latex Form company (ALFCO) of NY. They made different forms like these from the 40's into the 50's, and closed in the 60's.  The short time these items were made definitely make them collectable. The most popular ones  being the Cigar store countertop Indian displays. The forms are incredible in their detail, and really appear like real wood. Many companies tried to follow ALFCO when they closed.

PULLED from auction

It has come to my attention that this work, although under close scrutiny, appeared to be an original watercolor, is in fact a serigraph.  Due to this fact, I must pull from the auction.  The seller is considering his options of either re-offering this piece in the next auction, properly identified and estimated, or simply get it back.  I am sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused any of you interested in this lot.

Title:  Ancient Arabic Manuscript
Medium:  watercolor, calligraphy
Art Size (H x W):  10 x 7
Signature:  unsigned
Notes:  estimated to be about 200 plus years old, unknown what the inscription reads
Frame Size (H x W):  14.5 x 11.5
Frame Style:  black frame/double matte/glass
Condition:  tear around most of the art and gold gilt hand painted border, needs to be properly framed
Provenance:
These 4 manuscripts (next 3 lots and this one equals 4) came from my direct neighbor in Provincetown, someone I have known well since 1999. He inherited them from his uncle, Jack Paul Maroon (1919-2008), a very gifted artist from New York, known for his renderings of stage theaters from around the world on canvas. He spent a great deal of time on request to paint some of the greatest theaters in their locals. It is unknown how he acquired them but he did, before his passing, tell his nephew (my neighbor) that to treat them carefully as they were very old and very valuable.

About the Artist:  Unknown  (16th/17th century)  Unknown about the creator of these manuscripts.

Auctioneer's Note: I have done some extensive online research regarding these 4 Arabic manuscripts. I personally cannot decipher the writing and my knowledge of such items, to be honest, is just from what I have read online in my diligent search for enlightenment on these incredibly beautiful and provocative paintings on very delicate paper. It is obvious to any viewer (in person) the age of these 4 works are centuries old. I have sent images of all 4 to an expert in the field of manuscripts similar to these (in Europe) and it was his opinion they were Moroccan and probably around 250 years old.
